The Champagne Bureau and Sommeliers Australia present a series of Champagne workshops for industry professionals.

Australia remains one of the top export markets for Champagne in the world – and the styles of Champagne that are arriving here in 2021 are more diverse than ever.

Join the Champagne Bureau and Sommeliers Australia as they present a series of focused Champagne workshops in Melbourne and Sydney.

Each session has been curated to drill down into the unique Champagne terroir, examine the selection and influence of grape varietals planted in the appellation and a snapshot of the Champagne styles currently available in the Australian market.

Each workshop will examine 6 different Champagne cuvées over 90 minutes with an open, two-way discussion throughout the session with a strong focus on the sustainable practices used in the vineyard and throughout the production of Champagne wines (including cuvées from Champagne growers, houses and cooperatives).

The workshops will offer a technical overview of Champagne production and it is recommended for those attending enrol in the Comité Champagne education platform for further study.

11:00am Champagne Making
From the vineyard to the cellar to your glass, each step of the Champagne making process can bring a different nuance to your Champagne cuvee. In this session we cover some of the basic terms such as assemblage, dosage, brut and extra-brut and understanding the effect of malolactic fermentation.

1pm: Chardonnay
Chardonnay from the Côtes de Blancs is the most famous plantings of this white grape – but this is not the full story of this elegant grape variety. Learn about the role of Chardonnay in Champagne wines and why Blanc de Blancs is a style of Champagne perfectly suited to our Australian lifestyle and climate.

3pm: Rosé
Champagne Rosé is one of the most diverse categories of Champagne available; from Saignèe to Assemblage the variety of tastes and textures is almost endless. Compare and contrast the different styles of rosé Champagnes to discover more about this versatile wine style.
