Name:
Travis Lemm, Winemaker & Winery Manager at Voyager Estate (WA).
What is the most memorable moment you have experienced during your wine journey?
Recently collecting Winery of Year and White Wine of the Year for our 2018 MJW Chardonnay in the Ray Jordan Wine Guide 2021. Fantastic results for Voyager and a credit to all of the team who worked so hard to achieve it.
How would you describe your wine collection?
Limited…too much gets consumed too early! It is varied though, lots of Burgundy and a mixture of Italian.
What are you enjoying drinking right now?
2018 Chardonnays from around Australia. Rich fruit weighted year and there are some awesome wines available.
What do you think the wine industry will see more or less of in 2021?
Three things:- Seeing more trends to lighter fresher style red wines being enjoyed by consumers like our Project Nouveau Rouge.

– Tougher competition and price deflation in the market for wineries both in retail and restaurants as a lot of wine comes back to the domestic market that was destined for China.

– Burgundies to get even more expensive!

What is the one piece of advice you would give to someone wanting to start their career in wine?
Taste as much as you can and learn from as many people as you can. It’s such an eclectic wine world out there and the diversity is so great to experience. Also drink more Cabernet Sauvignon and support Australian wineries as much as possible! 😊
