The Champagne Bureau and Sommeliers Australia present a series of Champagne workshops for industry professionals.

Australia remains one of the top export markets for Champagne in the world – and the styles of Champagne that are arriving here in 2021 are more diverse than ever.

Join the Champagne Bureau and Sommeliers Australia as they present a series of focused Champagne workshops in Melbourne and Sydney.

Each session has been curated to drill down into the unique Champagne terroir, examine the selection and influence of grape varietals planted in the appellation and a snapshot of the Champagne styles currently available in the Australian market.

Each workshop will examine 6 different Champagne cuvées over 90 minutes with an open, two-way discussion throughout the session with a strong focus on the sustainable practices used in the vineyard and throughout the production of Champagne wines (including cuvées from Champagne growers, houses and cooperatives).

The workshops will offer a technical overview of Champagne production and it is recommended for those attending enrol in the Comité Champagne education platform for further study.

11:00am. The Champagne Terroir

The combination of micro-climate, soil and topography means that the appellation of Champagne has almost as many geographical variations as there are vineyards. Learn about the different types of terroir in the Champagne appellation and how the vignerons of the region work throughout the year.

1pm: Meunier

Meunier is a grape that will tolerate most adverse weather conditions and is particularly suited to the more clayey soils of the Vallée de la Marne – but this is not the full picture for this varietal. Discover what meunier brings to a Champagne blend and the qualities of Champagne wines comprised of 100% meunier.

3pm: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is planted predominantly on the Montagne de Reims and the Côtes des Bar and brings structure and body to a Champagne wine. See the role Pinot Noir has within the Champagne blend and learn more about the full bodied characters of Blanc de Noirs.
