Thursday, 21 September 2023 # 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm AEST

 * Bookings extended to 4pm, Tuesday 19 September *

As the most prolific grape variety in Australia, Syrah – or more popularly known as Shiraz – accounts for more than a quarter of total wine grape production.  The two names of the same grape tend to clue people in on its style – Shiraz is recognised as the big and bold-flavoured nectar from the Barossa Valley; and Syrah, the cool climate, ‘French’ leaning wine that is more floral and peppery.

Join us for the first time ever in Launceston, as Sommeliers Australia’s David Newman (S.Smith & Son/Negociants Aust.) and Michael Fisher (The Tasman) deep dive into Syrah with local winemaker Ricky Evans (Two Tonne Tasmania). Taste and discuss Syrahs from Tasmania alongside iconic examples from the mainland and Rhone Valley.
