I AM: Jenny Polack, wine educator and Director of Bacchus Enterprises (aka Wine Whitch) (QLD Committee) |
I BECAME A COMMITTEE MEMBER TO: To be able to support people starting off in the industry. |
MY BACKGROUND IS: I was brought up as a practising Jew in a suburb that had few other Jewish people. I went to the local primary and high schools and was always different to everyone else in my class. We drank a thimbleful of wine every Friday night with a blessing. It was always sweet and sometimes a Rutherglen Muscat. My wine journey began when the local fine wine shop took me on. Why they did – heaven knows! – as the first customer asked for half a dozen cans of VB and I asked him what the colour of the can was! I began buying wine and learning how to drink it. It fascinated me and I worked out that I was selling flavours. This was important to me as I could not just sell alcohol – I did not want to be a drug pusher.

ONE THING PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME IS… I used to play classical flute and studied music teaching. |
THE MOTTO I LIVE BY IS: To do the best in this world whilst I am here. (Can’t do much after! 🙂) |
THE PERFECT MEAL WOULD BE: There is no perfect, just a whole world of flavours yet to experience. |
MY GREATEST INDULGENCE WOULD BE: A tasting of wines from Stalin’s cellar. |
