Each week since November 2021, we’ve travelled the country to hear from our 30+ Committee members.

Today the Committee Spotlight series comes to an end in Melbourne, as we shine the spotlight on the last of the team who works behind the scenes to keep the association running…

I AM:
Imbi Knappstein, Sommeliers Australia Executive Officer.
MY BACKGROUND IS:
Grounded in wine. I’m the fourth generation of a South Australian wine family, married to a sommelier/vigneron, bringing up the fifth generation of a wine family! I didn’t grow up amongst the vines, but rather forged my own path through hospitality, then on to wine distribution focussing on customer service and marketing.
ONE THING PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME IS…
I’m half Estonian and love sharing the culture with family and friends.
THE MOTTO I LIVE BY IS:
“Do it [a task] properly the first time.”
I hate having to do things twice, but sometimes it’s just inevitable…🤦‍♀️ Woman Facepalming Emoji — Dictionary of Emoji, Copy & Paste
THE PERFECT MEAL WOULD BE:
Either one I didn’t have to cook or clean up after, or a long lunch where all of the people at the table brings a favourite dish, a wine and a story to share.
MY GREATEST INDULGENCE IS:
Imagining I’m holidaying in Vietnam, sipping ice cold ca phe sua da (Vietnamese ice coffee) and wondering what amazing food to eat next. Or cake. Maybe my greatest indulgence is ca phe sua da AND cake!?
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING A PART OF THE WINE INDUSTRY IS …While it’s a given that people in the industry know about and love wine, I like knowing that everyone has a ‘back story’ – the person behind the wine is just as interesting as what’s in the glass.
