I AM:
Greg Lightfoot, Santé Wines Area Manager (VIC Committee)
I BECAME A COMMITTEE MEMBER TO:
To give back to the association. I was taught and mentored by some amazing somms who had been part of Sommeliers Australia, who encouraged me to join.
MY BACKGROUND IS:
I began my career as an apprentice waiter, ended up cooking and got my chefs papers. Then I realised how much better it was to be on the floor rather than the kitchen. My family had always enjoyed wine, some of my youngest memories are of waiting in the car parks of wineries in the car with my siblings and then driving the rest of the holiday perched on cases of wine that lined the back seat of our family car. I still love the smell of wineries and those old school cellar doors.
THE MOTTO I LIVE BY IS:
Try and do it better tomorrow than today.
MY ROLE MODEL IS:
Nathan Buckley for his dedication, drive and ability to focus on what’s in front of him. He seems to be able to put things into perspective as he got older; the way he can lead others and intertwines life and his sport, so when you listen to him it all makes sense.
THE PERFECT MEAL WOULD BE:
A meal in Tuscany involving Brunello and lots of laughter.
MY GREATEST INDULGENCE IS:
Spending time ogling expensive bicycles.
