The Sommeliers Australia National Executive Committee has thought long and hard about how a voluntary organisation, such as ours, can better understand the barriers to participation, and support and encourage a more diverse range of our members in applying for opportunities such as the Best Sommelier competition and other career development initiatives.
Earlier this month, the NEC shared its vision to create a working group to look at how Sommeliers Australia could encourage greater diversity and inclusion within the association.
In response to this call to action, a number of Sommeliers Australia members and industry professionals have stepped forward to contribute to this working group. We look forward to the group coming together in early 2021 and sharing their thoughts.
