Hailing from Barcelona, Sofia’s introduction to wine began when she studied tourism and hospitality management in her home city. Before moving to Australia in 2015, Sofia’s hospitality journey took her across the globe, to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Miami in the USA, and Montpellier in France.
Sofia has worked across a range of venues, from small bars to bistro-style restaurants, through to high-end contemporary dining. Sofia has been responsible for food and beverage programs at both the Marriott in Miami and Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona.
Sofia managed Perth’s Shadow Wine Bar before joining Fiveight Venues in 2021. Today, Sofia is the group sommelier and hospitality manager for Fiveight Venues, overseeing the wine programs for venues including Cooee, Indigo Oscar, and Copia Café & Wine Bar. Recently, Copia Café & Wine Bar and Cape Lodge in Margaret River, were both awarded 3 glasses in the Australian Wine List of the Year. Sofia recently completed the WSET Diploma and is currently pursuing the Spanish Wine Scholar certification from the Wine Scholar Guild.
Sofia feels the wine industry connects diverse cultures and heritages, creating shared experiences that bring people together. Sofia is passionate about the effects of climate change from the wine industry and is committed to exploring sustainable practices in winemaking. From vineyard management through to the role of a sommelier, Sofia believes we all have a responsibility to promote awareness and drive change, ensuring that our passion for wine can coexist with a healthier planet.
