WATCH THE RECORDING of Champagne for International Women’s Day

On the eve of International Women’s Day, join Sommeliers Australia and the Champagne Bureau Australia to take part in a unique technical discussion about Champagne wine.

Champagne is a region that has a long history of strong female role models. This event to celebrate International Women’s Day was conceived by Sommeliers Australia President Sarah Andrew, and generously supported by the Champagne Bureau Australia, to recognise the work that Sommeliers Australia’s in doing in the Diversity and Inclusion space, in creating a safe and inclusive workspace for all sommeliers regardless of gender or identity.

The technical discussion will cover the importance of the diverse gender roles within the Champagne industry and while some names have world-wide recognition, others are less known but equally important to the success of Champagne internationally; highlighting the balanced view of Champagne vineyards and Champagne production in recognising talented and creative winemakers from across Champagne.

As part of the technical discussion, also on offer is an opportunity to taste a specially selected Champagne Cuvée focusing on diversity in the Champagne region as a whole and the role of female winemakers.

Four special Cuvées for the tasting have been selected from both the Grower and House categories and from across the region to shine a spotlight on the diversity of Champagne found in the region. Each wine represents the very best of Champagne – and may be a great chance to discover something new from the appellation of Champagne.

Marc Chauvet Intitiales 2012 (Rilly-la-Montagne) – winemaker Clothilde Chauvet

Champagne Ayala Blanc de Blancs 2014 (Aÿ) – winemaker Caroline Latrive
