Name:
Kati Vainionpaa, Education Development Manager APAC at Wine Australia.
What is the most memorable moment you have experienced during your wine journey?
When I celebrated my grandmother’s 100th birthday with her,  sharing a Seppeltsfield 1914 Para Vintage Tawny. Both elegant, temperamental but to be respected!
What is the most recent addition to your cellar?
Clonakilla Canberra District Riesling 2019
What are you enjoying drinking right now?
I always enjoy a variety of wine styles depending on the season. I won’t say no to a well-made sparkling wine and I am lover of Riesling and Semillon. During the summer months, I also enjoy lovely crunchy reds that I can chill a little bit.
If you could only take two things to a desert island (that has a fridge), what would they be? Being on a desert island sounds longer than a normal stay so I would take Rutherglen Muscat as it wouldn’t get spoiled so easily (and if the fridge breaks down) and an inflatable, unbreakable paddle board if I really want to leave the island.
What do you think the wine industry will see more or less of in 2021?
After a year of spending a lot of time at home I think 2021 will see people really valuing eating out at restaurants again, drinking good quality wine and appreciating good service.
