Sommeliers Australia’s National Executive Committee has announced that a working group focusing on gender equality and diversity will be formed in January 2021.
The NEC has long discussed what can be done as a voluntary organisation to understand the barriers to participation, and how to best support and encourage a more diverse range of Sommeliers Australia members in applying for opportunities such as the Best Sommelier competition, scholarships and other career development activities.
Although gender inequality and lack of diversity is viewed as an industry-wide issue, Sommeliers Australia is committed to welcoming a range of voices in tackling these imbalances at an association level.
