[WA] International Women’s Day x Champagne Celebration Tasting
Date: March 8#4:00 pm-6:00 pm AWST
Sommeliers Australia has partnered with the Champagne Bureau Australia* to host an informal tasting event that celebrates International Women’s Day and the important contribution of women to the culture, winemaking and business of the Champagne appellation.
A range of cuvees have been selected from Houses, Growers and Cooperatives across the appellation of Champagne. Some marques are recognised the world over, while others are sourced from smaller producers and might be less well known, but they are all making an impact on the Champagne scene in Australia/the world.
Core to the tasting are cuvees produced by women winemakers, with examples from the likes of:

Michel Gonet : winemaker Sophie Signolle Gonet [Avize]
Perrier-Jouët : winemaker Séverine Frerson [Epernay]
Champagne Jacquart : winemaker Joëlle Weiss [Reims]
Duval Leroy : winemaker Sandrine Logette-Jardin [Vertus]
Marc Chauvet : winemaker Clotilde Chauvet [Rilly-la-Montagne]
Bruno Paillard : winemaker Alice Paillard [Reims]
Plus a selection of other cuvees will also be included in the line-up, including De Saint-Gall, Larmandier- Bernier, Penfolds x Thienot, Taittinger, Veuve Clicquot…

* The Champagne Bureau is happy to support this tasting with Sommeliers Australia to celebrate International Women’s Day and in recognition of the work that Sommeliers Australia’s is doing in the Diversity and Inclusion space, in creating a safe and inclusive workspace for all sommeliers and wine professionals regardless of gender or identity.
There has been a long history of the influence of strong female role models in the Champagne region that has been documented since medieval times. Contemporary evidence shows that this vital role of women continues in the industry today, where there is more inclusion and diversity in traditional roles; since 2017 there have been more female students studying wine making at Reims University than ever before.
