Who. Will. Reign?
The Sommeliers Australia “Warriors of Wine” Sommeliers Long Lunch is back in Melbourne on Sunday 4 August, with our good friends at Osteria Ilaria opening their doors especially to host.
This year the battle lines have been drawn by three of Melbourne’s most talented, up-and-coming sommeliers:
Abhi Ayare // Reine and La Rue
Marie Pousse // Circl Wine House
Justin Howe // Osteria Ilaria
The challenge will be for each “Warrior” to each present three wines to match three ‘battle round’ courses prepared by the talented team at Osteria Ilaria.
The winner of the “Warriors of Wine” title will be determined by those in the dining arena, who will cast votes for their favourite wine matches.
Will Justin have home ground advantage, or will he be out matched by the competition? We’ll have to wait and see!
Accompanying the three ‘battle round’ courses will be an aperitif on arrival, plus a glass of something delicious to enjoy with cheese. In total 11 wines will be served.
Not only is this a fantastic opportunity to see three of Melbourne’s sommeliers put through their paces, but the lunch will also include a fundraising raffle and auction. This year funds raised will go towards facilitating the Sommeliers Australia Education Scholarship in 2025.

Timing – Doors will open from 12pm for aperitifs, sitting down at 12.30pm for lunch. Proceedings will conclude around 4pm.
Seating – Seating will be shared tables; guests should indicate in their bookings if they’d like to be seated with others booked.
Menu – The set menu comprises snacks on arrival, 3 courses and cheese. Please ensure dietary requirements are made known at the time of booking.
