The Best Sommelier of Australia Stage 3 | Finals are scheduled to take place on Monday 15 March, as a hybrid in-person and virtual event  a first for Sommeliers Australia!

The Education Sub-Committee has been working hard to prepare an international standard Finals assessment which will be run concurrently in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Candidate preparation
With less than one month until the Best Sommelier of Australia Stage 3 | Finals, our Top 11 Semi Finalists continue to prepare for the challenge.

Earlier this month, the Top 11 were invited to attend a Competition Preparation session, conducted by Jackson Family Wines’ International Brand Ambassador, Dimitri Mesnard MS, via Zoom.

As a recognised wine show and sommelier competition judge, Dimitri shared with the Top 11 his knowledge and advice on how to best prepare for both sommelier competitions and exams. Plenty of notes were taken, and new skills are sure to be practiced ahead of the Finals!

Thanks to Jackson Family Wines for facilitating such an amazing learning opportunity.

The main event
On the afternoon of Monday 15 March, our Top 11 Semi Finalists, sponsors and guests will gather at QT Melbourne or QT Sydney, where the Top 3 Finalists will be revealed, based on their Stage 2 | Semi Finals results.

The Stage 3 | Final assessment will take place in front of a live audience, with judging panels in both cities assessing the Top 3 candidates via live video link. The winner of Best Sommelier of Australia 2021* will be announced during the Awards dinner afterwards.

Who will be the Best Sommelier of Australia? We’ll just have to wait and see…
