SUMMARY:[VIC] The Rise of Sparklers: An Australian Sparkling Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:The production of sparkling wine in Australia\, in all its guises\, has been on the increase for a couple of decades now\, with the market for bubbly never losing traction. SUMMARY:[NAT] Sommeliers Australia 2019 AGM
DESCRIPTION:The Sommeliers Australia 2019 National Annual General Meeting has been scheduled for Sunday 18 August\, 1.30-3.30pm at Alfred Place in Melbourne. \nThe AGM will be followed by ‘Italian Summer’ the Victorian Chapter’s annual Gala event\, where the new National Executive Committee will be announced. \n  \nExpressions of Interest\nAs a member of Sommeliers Australia the AGM is your opportunity to have a say in how Sommeliers Australia will be structured for the 2019/2020 year. \nThe National Executive Committee (NEC) is calling for expressions of interest from current members who are willing and able to commit their time to help manage the association at the National level. \nMembers of the NEC are selected from current State Chapter committees\, meaning that interested members must be able to support the activities of Sommeliers Australia within their own state\, in addition to managing the future vision of the association and working on National projects\, such as the 2021 ASI Best Sommelier of Asia Oceania competition. \nWithout our dedicated volunteer Committee members\, Sommeliers Australia would no longer be able to provide the education\, scholarships and opportunities that are currently available. \n  \n2019 AGM Agenda\nDuring the 2019 National AGM a new NEC will be elected from amongst the State Chapter Committees and nominated members. The agenda will also include business from the previous year and the vision for 2020 and beyond. \nAll financial members are welcome to attend and vote\, however only Sommelier/Professional level members can nominate a proxy for voting. \nA complete agenda\, nomination and proxy forms will be posted online in the weeks of late July/early August. CLICK HERE  for more information or please contact info@sommeliers.com.au for a copy. \n  \nPLEASE NOTE: If you wish to submit a nomination form please forward your completed form to the Administration Officer Imbi Knappstein via info@sommeliers.com.au\, no later than Tuesday 6 August\, 4pm. \nCompleted proxy forms must be brought to the meeting by the nominated member or received by Administration Officer Imbi Knappstein via info@sommeliers.com.au\, no later than Tuesday 6 August\, 4pm.

SUMMARY:[VIC] Common Wine Faults: A Tasting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you have trouble recognising brett? Never tasted mousiness? \nThen join us at this specialised 2 hour workshop as we examine wine faults commonly (mis)identified in a dining setting. \nHeld in collaboration with the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI)\, this workshop is open to Sommeliers Australia members and guests to attend. Common wine faults presenting in white and red wine will be shown in various concentrations (10 faults in total)\, and our panel of experts – AWRI scientist Matt Holdstock\, Jonathan Ross MS and winemaker Sierra Reed (Reed Wines) – will discuss why these faults occur and how best to identify them\, as well as being on hand to answer technical and practical questions. \nThis workshop is a must for sommeliers\, wait staff\, bar staff and anyone working in a retail or distribution setting\, as participants will learn to recognise and determine their own personal sensitivities and/or insensitivities to wine faults across both white and red wines. \n  \nSeats for this workshop are limited\, book early to avoid disappointment. \n  \nCOST:\nSommeliers Australia members – $99 + booking fee \nNon-Members – $149 + booking fee \n  \nCLICK HERE to book your seat via Eventbrite \n  \nPLEASE NOTE: Bookings are essential\, and will be taken until Friday 14 June\, 4pm unless booked out prior.
