The primary/main purpose of the Assistant Sommelier is to assist the Head Sommelier in order to ensure professional, efficient and accurate wine and beverage service in order to completely satisfy our guests during their dining experience and ensure the service being delivered to our guests is of the highest levels.
You will be responsible for assisting our guests to find a wine within their budget that fits their tastes and compliments their food. You will work with the Head Sommelier, Executive Chef and Restaurant Manager to find suitable wines to pair with dishes on the menu.
A wine list of Jonah’s calibre requires the Assistant Sommelier to have a broad knowledge of both Australian and international wines and to be able to support the Head Sommelier to maintain, manage and grow Jonah’s internationally awarded wine list. Jonah’s now holds the following qualifications: three glasses in the Australian Fine Wine Partners/Gourmet Traveller list, three stars in the World of Fine Wine list and two goblets in the Wine Spectator list, having over 1,600 wines. The goal is to keep this amazing wine list alive and approachable.
The Assistant Sommelier is an in-house, hospitality professional, specialising in wine and beverage service who is able to educate and train our floor team, is able to work within a budget and achieve key result ratios and has solid experience with a live stock system.
Develop and maintain the quality of the wine list and service is the greatest goal that we are reaching as a team.
