SUMMARY:[QLD] Aligoté Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Imagine having a sibling rivalry with an omnipresent heavy-hitter? Well\, Aligoté\, the oft-overlooked little sibling to Chardonnay\, takes that mantle. \nBut\, the landscape is changing in both Burgundy\, and more recently in Australia. Aligoté\, the ‘other white grape’ of Burgundy\, is steadily emerging from the shadow of its sibling. \nIn this masterclass\, hosted by Wiremu Andrews (Dearth of a Salesman) in conversation with Chris Catlow (Sentio Wines) Sommeliers Australia will attempt to assemble every commercially available Australian Aligoté and taste them alongside a selection of Bourgogne Aligoté\, Bouzeron\, and more. \nStraight after this masterclass\, you can head to our QLD Meet & Greet\, at Cru Bar – details here.

SUMMARY:[SA] Blind Tasting Group #3
DESCRIPTION:Blind tasting is one of the most effective ways to refine your palate\, but it often comes with challenges – it can be expensive\, time-consuming\, and intimidating. \nTo make blind tasting more accessible\, Sommeliers Australia has recently introduced a dedicated tasting group in Adelaide. These sessions have already proven to be highly successful\, providing a structured and supportive environment for wine professionals\, students\, and enthusiasts. \nEach session runs for one hour\, allowing you to focus purely on what’s in the glass. Simply book\, turn up\, taste\, and develop your skills with expert guidance from host Sally Johnson (Lecturer and Diploma Academic Support Manager at the Wines and Spirits School\, TAFE SA). \nThroughout the session\, you’ll taste four wines – two whites and two reds – carefully selected for their typicity\, representing a diverse mix of varieties\, origins\, quality levels\, and price points. At the conclusion of each bracket\, your host will provide key insights and practical techniques to help refine your tasting approach. \nThis tasting group is ideal for industry professionals looking for structured blind tasting practice\, WSET and CMS students preparing for exams\, or anyone wanting to challenge and expand their palate.

SUMMARY:[QLD] Blind Tasting Group #1
DESCRIPTION:Due to the success of our blind tasting groups operating interstate\, Queensland is now launching a blind tasting group series\, beginning May 2025. \nTasting wines blind is the best way to improve your palate. But three things often stand in the way – it can be costly\, it takes up time\, and it can be intimidating. Our monthly blind tasting sessions eliminate all of these obstacles\, because for 1 hour it’s just between you and what’s in the glass! Simply book in\, turn up\, taste and expand your tasting ability\, with guidance from Sommeliers Australia’s hosts. At the conclusion of each bracket\, your host will give a short summary on the key pointers for the tasting of the wine\, and how to get to the correct conclusions. \nFour different wines – two whites and two reds – will be tasted each month. Wines are chosen primarily for their typicity and are a mixed bag of varieties\, origins\, quality and price points. \nSuitable for anyone in the industry wanting to practice blind tasting in a structured way\, those studying WSET and CMS\, or anyone looking to shake up their ‘cellar palate’. \n

SUMMARY:[VIC] Mornington Peninsula Wine on Tour
DESCRIPTION:The vignerons of the Mornington Peninsula will be taking over Victoria by Farmer’s Daughters at Federation Square\, on Thursday 22 May\, hosting an invitation only trade & media tasting. \nThis combination of powerhouse pioneers\, winemakers\, owners\, legends and the ‘next-generation’ with their own ambitious aspirations will be predominantly promoting the region’s Pinot Noir\, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris among the group of 20 wineries\, who have new stories to tell\, new wines to share and people to meet. \nWineries include Crittenden Wines\, Dexter\, Foxeys Hangout\, Garagiste\, Kerri Greens\, Handpicked Wines\, Kyberd Hills\, Port Phillip Estate & Kooyong Estate\, Montalto\, Ocean Eight\, Nazaaray\, Paringa Estate\, Polperro & Even Keel\, Pt Leo Estate\, Phaedrus\, Quealy Winemakers\, Rahona Valley\, Tar & Roses and Southern Light Vineyards\, Stonier\, Symons Wines and Yabby Lake. \nThe Mornington Peninsula is a region of spectacular natural beauty located 80km south of Melbourne. It has a long history of fruit growing in a cool\, maritime climate with prevailing cool southerly winds coming off Bass Strait which moderate temperatures to provide mild growing conditions. This enables us to grow and ripen quality Pinot Noir\, a grape that flourishes in a select few regions around the world. In rich volcanic soils of the Peninsula coupled with the maritime climate deliver wines which embody purity and perfume intensity of fruit flavour and lively acidity that is characteristic of Mornington Peninsula wines. \nThe Vignerons of the Mornington Peninsula are a collective of boutique producers that have a passion for growing exceptional fruit\, making often very limited quantities of world-class wines\, and will be pouring over 120 wines for one day only. \nThe trade tasting will be followed by a $85 per head\, ticketed consumer event in the evening. \nTo register to secure your ticket to this private trade and media event\, click here.
