SUMMARY:[VIC] Rare Sherry Tasting with Willy Perez (TSA)
DESCRIPTION:Join TSA for an intimate two-hour tasting with Willy Pérez – one of the most captivating figures in wine – featuring rare and exceptional Sherries\, accompanied by snacks at Bar Lourinhã. \nWhy is this so exciting? \nBecause Willy isn’t just producing some of the most beautiful Palomino whites in Spain – he’s also been quietly releasing a trove of extraordinary\, tiny-production Sherries under his La Riva and BLP labels over the past eight years. Many are virtually impossible to find. \nScott has been collecting them\, and with Willy in town\, this is the perfect chance to open the cellar. Much of what you’ll taste on the night is unavailable for purchase\, and in many cases\, never to be repeated. For those ready to dive deeper\, there will be a small selection available for purchase – bring your curiosity. \nAfter the tasting\, head downstairs to linger over a few more snacks and glasses at one of Melbourne’s favourite wine destinations.

SUMMARY:[NSW] Rootlings Conference
DESCRIPTION:Back for the third year\, the 2025 Rootling’s Conference is heading to Griffith in the Riverina. Rootling’s is the wine industry youth network for individuals 35 and under\, working in all facets of the wine industry. \nThe Riverina – with Griffith at its heart – is situated in southern central New South Wales and is the largest producing wine region in NSW\, and the second largest in Australia. It was waves of European migrants after the First and Second World Wars that gave the Riverina – and its wine industry – a cultural identity not replicated anywhere else in Australia. Their descendants\, all third or fourth generation family businesses\, are the wineries driving the new face of Riverina premium winemaking and account for a significant proportion of Australia’s export success winning accolades and recognition worldwide. \nDAY ONE \nCasella Family Brands is Australia’s largest family-owned wine company founded in 1969. Enjoy either a winery tour through their large-scale facility or vineyard tour before morning tea. After morning tea\, enjoy a Winery Market Export workshop with Nic Schrippia. \nNext\, our coach will take us to Yarran Wines\, a second-generation family owned wine brand with organically certified vineyards. \nAfter lunch we will travel to the De Bortoli and experience the Noble One wine which has made De Bortoli the brand it is today! \nOur dinner event is held at Calabria. The Calabria Family Wines story began in 1945 with founders Francesco and Elisabetta Calabria. Eight decades later\, the third generation proudly carries on their grandparents’ values of hard work and innovation. Meet the Calabria family and spend the evening networking with other Rootling’s. \nDAY TWO \nBegin with either a journey to Yenda Producers Co-Operative or back to Calabria Family Wines. At Yenda Producers discover the viticultural practices in the region and discuss career opportunity and directions with Jeremy Cass of Riverina Winegrape growers and Kristy Baltrop of Southern Vineyards. At Calabria\, spend time with Andrew Calabria who will deep dive into domestic sales and branding strategy. \nAt lunchtime\, we will head to the Piccolo Family Farm to enjoy lunch and time with Luke Piccolo. Set on 20 acres just outside of Griffith NSW\, Piccolo Family Farm uses sustainable farming practices across its citrus orchard\, fruit\, vegetable and herb plantations\, and small vineyard. The farm directly supplies seasonal produce for the family’s restaurant\, Limone Dining\, championing the establishment’s “farm to fork” approach. \n By mid-afternoon the 3rd Rootlings Conference will be all wrapped up for you to head safely home. \n  \nThere are five places for non-NSW Rootlings to join the conference\, with travel\, accommodation\, and most meals paid for. Apply via this form before Sunday 25 May.

SUMMARY:[NSW] Wines of Western Australia Trade Tasting 300+ Wines
DESCRIPTION:Western Australia is inviting the nation to share its trove of EXHILARATING wines in a new program\, beginning with a monumental trade tasting of 50 wineries and 300+ wines on Tuesday 17 June\, 11am – 2pm or 3pm – 6pm. \nThe most significant tasting of wines from Western Australia ever staged outside of the State will showcase iconic and emerging wineries from seven wine regions\, including the celebrated Margaret River and Great Southern\, historic Swan Valley\, and exciting up-comers Geographe\, Pemberton\, Blackwood Valley and the Perth Hills. \n“Our wineries have been trailblazers since 1895 when Australia’s second oldest wine region\, the Swan Valley was planted. The quality and winemaking creativity coming from Western Australia’s wine regions has never been greater. Our industry’s artisan nature and magnificent seclusion makes this a well-kept secret\, and we’re thrilled to bring more wine lovers into the fold\, starting with this trade event in Sydney\,” said Wines of Western Australia CEO Larry Jorgensen. \nThe EXHILARATING Wines from Western Australia program has been introduced to support region and producer endeavours and provide new opportunities that invite trade and consumers to connect with the wines\, people and stories of what is for many\, uncharted terrain. \n“We thought deeply about the common threads between our diverse tapestry of regions and producers. The consistent theme was in the energy and the elements here. Specifically\, the vast land and its ancient splendour\, the tremendous power of the coast\, and a lineage of resourceful endeavour that’s essential when you live in one of the Earth’s most geographically remote places. These are major influences on viticulture\, winemaking and the lifestyle in Western Australia\, contributing to our vivid and energetic wines\,” Larry Jorgensen said. \n“Producers are crafting styles that can be fresh and expressive from 2 months to 20+ years. Classic wine varietals are being reimagined\, while there are more than 40 different grape varieties planted. Everything about what the producers are doing is exhilarating.” \nWines from Western Australia’s nine regions represent just 4% of the annual Australian grape crush and have a global reputation. In 2024\, the International Wine and Spirits Challenge Awarded 63% of Australia’s Gold Medals to wines from Western Australia’s regions. The Decanter World Wine Awards have reflected similar success\, as summarised by respected wine reviewer\, retailer and statistician\, John Jens. \n“Western Australia won 4 of the 19 Chardonnay “Best of Show” awards in the five [Decanter] shows between 2020 and 2024\, against the entire wine world – 21%. Western Australia’s Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blends won 4 of 7 “Best of Show” awards in the three shows between 2022 and 2024 against the world – 57%!” Jens said. \nWestern Australia is phylloxera-free\, home to a global Biodiversity Hotspot and has 110 Sustainable Winegrowers Australia Certified Members. \nThe event will also feature masterclasses\, to be announced soon.

SUMMARY:[VIC] SA Great! A 67 Pall Mall showcase of South Australian wine
DESCRIPTION:SA Great! – A 67 Pall Mall showcase of South Australian wine.  \nJoin 67 Pall Mall for a spectacular wine walkaround showcasing 24 of South Australia’s most exciting producers\, from legacy leaders to modern mavericks.  Taste your way across this extraordinary landscape\, meet the people who tend the vines\, fill the barrels\, and pour the wines\, and immerse yourself in the past\, present\, and future of one of the world’s most dynamic wine regions. \nSouth Australia isn’t just the engine room of Australian wine; it’s a treasure trove of ancient vines\, groundbreaking viticulture\, and some of the most compelling Rhône varieties on the planet. With a lineage stretching back to the 1800s\, this is a region where history and innovation collide – where Shiraz reigns\, Riesling crackles with acidity\, and Grenache thrives in gnarly old bush vines on sandy soils. \nFrom the slate-driven\, dry Rieslings of Clare and Eden Valleys to the structured Cabernets of Coonawarra’s legendary Terra Rossa\, South Australian wine is a masterclass in terroir-driven diversity. McLaren Vale’s vineyards give us sultry\, perfumed Grenache\, while Barossa’s Shiraz tells a story of power and poise in every glass. And beyond the classics\, a new wave of winemakers is pushing the boundaries\, experimenting with site\, clone\, and technique to redefine what’s possible. \n  \nIn conjunction with the SA Great! Walkaround guests have the opportunity to join us for Terra Rossa Tomorrow – a special panel discussion hosted by Nick Ryan\, exploring the future of South Australian wine through the lens of its most dynamic voices. \nPlease note that The Terra Rossa Tomorrow panel is a separately ticketed event to the SA Great! Walkaround on the same evening.\n\nOne of Australia’s most recognized wine regions\, Coonawarra has long held a stellar reputation for red wine production. With changes to global temperatures\, drinking trends and a new generation of winemakers\, there are some unique challenges to the winemakers and families of the region. \nHosted by Australian wine writer and communicator\, Nick Ryan\, this panel tasting and discussion will look at the future of Coonawarra and how winemakers and growers view the region’s strengths\, challenges and advantages. Panelists Sue Hodder (Wynns)\, Maddie LeMire (Balnaves) and Joe Cory (Zema Estate) will speak on sustainability\, winemaking and viticulture\, challenging preconceptions on the region in a lively discussion fueled by six exemplary wines.\n\nTerra Rossa Tomorrow Wines:\n\n2021 Zema Estate Cabernet Sauvignon\n2016 Zema Saluti Cabernet Shiraz \n2022 Balnaves of Coonawarra The Tally Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon\n2020 Balnaves of Coonawarra Shiraz \n2021 Wynns Single Vineyard Messenger Cabernet Sauvignon\n2022 Wynns Black Label Old Vine Shiraz \n  \nFor more information and to book\, head to the website.

SUMMARY:[SA] A night with Owen Latta
DESCRIPTION:Owen Latta joins us on Wednesday\, June 25th to explore some of his latest LATTA and Eastern Peake releases (as well as a few from the cellar) alongside a menu tailored by our head chef Andrew Ferrara. \nEastern Peake has a focus on single vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from estate grown fruit as well as three sites under Owen’s management in Coghill’s Creek. Here\, the focus on organic and sustainable principles allows him to do all of the work in the vineyard and less in the winery\, allowing for naturally expressive and powerful wines. \nLATTA\, which launched in 2013 gives Owen the freedom to experiment with different varieties\, allowing him to produce wines reflecting the unique terroir of Western and Central Victoria. \nWe are delighted to welcome Owen Latta to Leigh Street Wine Room this June\, for an exploration of both of his labels paired alongside a menu crafted to match the wines. \nSommeliers Australia Members receive a 10% discount off ticket price on the night.
