New Zealand Wine 'SOMMIT' Scholarship 2018 - applications open!

New Zealand Winegrowers and Sommeliers Australia are excited to announce that New Zealand Wine International Sommelier Scholarship (Sommit) applications have opened for Australian sommeliers, offering them the opportunity to take part in a memorable wine experience across the ditch.

Successful applicants will engage with and learn from some of the greatest minds in the business while sampling benchmark wines from New Zealand and the rest of the world on an intensive programme of up to 10 days, including one of two Sommits™.

Limited to just 20 attendees at each, the two Sommits™ held in Nelson and Central Otago will be attended exclusively by sommeliers and targeted exclusively to their interests. These events are a celebration of the lesser known aspects of New Zealand wine, with particular emphasis on the facets that resonate with the sommelier community.

ASI Members Elect New President

This year's ASI General Assembly in Bordeaux (15 & 16 June), was a very important one, as the member countries of the international association gathered to vote for a new President and regional Vice-Presidents.

Andres Rosberg (Argentina) was voted as the successor to Shinya Tasaki (Japan), whose term in office has been deemed one of the most successful in bringing together sommelier associations from 55 nations.

Saiko Tamura-Soga (Japan) successfully stepped into the role of Vice-President Asia Oceania. Her vision for better regional communication and Asia Oceania working more closely together is one that Sommeliers Australia shares.

Sommeliers Australia would also like to thank Shinya for his years of service and dedication to the sommelier profession, and warmly welcomes both Andres and Saiko to their new roles.
