2016 RUINART SOMMELIERS CHALLENGE

Open to working members of Sommeliers Australia, a select number of scholarships will be awarded for 2018 and include international and domestic flights, accommodation, meals, transfers, event registration and all event inclusions. Candidates are expected to have a strong passion for the wine industry, have a thirst for knowledge of New Zealand wine. A selection committee will review all applications, with a shortlist of candidates invited to take part in a panel interview.
Further information regarding the scholarship will be made available mid-2017.The following competitions and examinations are not run by Sommeliers Australia but we encourage our members to participate:CONCOURS DES JEUNES SOMMELIERS (YOUNG SOMMELIERS COMPETITION) 2017
This competition is open to any qualified individual who is sponsored by an active professional
member of the Chaîne, has an interest in the wine and crafted beverage industry and is aged 21 - 30 years old.
The Australian National winner in 2017 will receive a cash prize of $3,000 and a fully paid trip to
Budapest [Hungary], to compete in the international finals on 29 and 30 September 2017.
T he annual International Jeunes Sommeliers Competition to offer young sommeliers the opportunity to present their skills and "savoir faire" under highly competitive, intense and grueling testing conditions.
There are three levels in the Young Sommeliers competition:
- a regional written 1 hour theory examination (State-based) – 3 April 2017
- a national (Australian) final where the winners of regional competitions are invited to
compete in a written theory test, a blind test and a service test – 5 June 2017 in Sydney
- an international final where national winners are invited to again compete in a written theory
test, a blind wine identification tests and service tests – Budapest, 29 and 30 September.
The competition is based on the Court of Master Sommelier (UK) procedures.

.PONTIFEX SCHOLARSHIP 2018
(Offered in Australia biennially)
The scholarship - established in 1998 to celebrate the life of young Australian Daniel Pontifex, who was killed in a car accident while working at Kensington Place Restaurant in London - contributes funds towards the cost of flights, travel insurance, accommodation and expenses for the successful candidate.
